ActewAGL has opened its first CNG refuelling station in Canberra, Australia and is looking to pave the way for CNG in Australia. The energy provider hopes to attract more users for its current CNG pump at Fyshwick after a 12 month trial involving about 30 vehicles.

Macquarie Energy was given approval for exploratory drilling for natural gas in Australia’s biggest city, Sydney, in the suburb of St. Peters, 15 kilometres west of Sydney's downtown. Drilling is scheduled to begin by Jan – Feb 2011.

The Korea Gas Corp is keen on acquiring shareholding in Australian and Indonesian liquefied natural gas projects as it aims to secure supplies. The state run company is keen on bolstering Korea’s supplier of liquefied natural gas and the planned Australian acquisitions are expected to result in stable supplies.

In line with the strategy for cleaner fuel that was launched in early 2000, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced that twenty-five percent of the emirate’s vehicles will be running on cleaner and cheaper CNG and Green Diesel by 2012.

Contrary to speculations that BP would downsize in Azerbaijan as a means to offset its liabilities in the Gulf of Mexico, BP signed a production sharing agreement with Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company (SOCAR) for the exploration and development of the Shafag and Asiman gas blocks in Azerbaijan’s Caspian offshore sector.

For the fourth time in the last six years, the Bangladeshi government has raised the fare for CNG-powered auto-rickshaws to Tk 25 from Tk 14 for the first two kilometres, and Tk 7 from Tk 6 for each following kilometre, with waiting fares of Tk 1.25 for each minute of waiting at the traffic lights or any other spot during the ride. The new fares will be effective from 1 January 2011. It has also increased the daily rent of each auto-rickshaw to Tk 600 from Tk 450 in response to the owners’ demand.

Babcock International Group's Marine Division has completed a study to investigate the commercial implications of developing a nuclear-powered LNG carrier—a move that would be a first for LNG vessels. Among its findings, the study has identified that recently updated legislation and available classification society rules allow for a fresh approach to the design of nuclear powered vessels.
