In India, the use of CNG was introduced in 1991 when the national exhaust emission standards were decreed in order to combat the worsening air pollution caused in part by an exploding urban transportation fleet. By 1993, CNG became available in Delhi, India’s capital, and adoption across the country became widespread. Using natural gas to power urban transportation was reduced India’s dependency on oil as natural gas is abundant in the Western parts of India.
