Babcock International Group’s Marine Division has completed a study to investigate the commercial implications of developing a nuclear-powered LNG carrier—a move that would be a first for LNG vessels. Among its findings, the study has identified that recently updated legislation and available classification society rules allow for a fresh approach to the design of nuclear powered vessels.

In line with the strategy for cleaner fuel that was launched in early 2000, the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has announced that twenty-five percent of the emirate’s vehicles will be running on cleaner and cheaper CNG and Green Diesel by 2012.

The owners of CNG refuelling stations across Bangladesh have issued an ultimatum to the government: Remove the daily six hour ban on CNG pumps, or face having no CNG pumps operating at all. The owners have decided on starting a non-stop strike from November 1 unless the government order is withdrawn by October 31.

For the fourth time in the last six years, the Bangladeshi government has raised the fare for CNG-powered auto-rickshaws to Tk 25 from Tk 14 for the first two kilometres, and Tk 7 from Tk 6 for each following kilometre, with waiting fares of Tk 1.25 for each minute of waiting at the traffic lights or any other spot during the ride. The new fares will be effective from 1 January 2011. It has also increased the daily rent of each auto-rickshaw to Tk 600 from Tk 450 in response to the owners’ demand.
